GROOMING FOR GREATNESS!

The essence of my blog has always been to acquire and share Knowledge from the perspective of a youth, for this reason, the weekly sermons of Pastor David. O Adeoye {senior pastor, Royalty Christian Center, Agege, Lagos} is one knowledge i find neccessary for every young boy or girl who aspires to be GREAT!

Please donot read this along religous divide, just pick what you feel is relevant and leave the irrelevant part for another reader, who would think it relevant... Simple!

This week, we would be learning somethings about 'Faith', by definition of the Good Book "Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen".

To the teachings of Pastor David O Adeoye, that i would like to share:
  • When Faith is talking, carnal men cannot understand.
  • Faith and fear cannot abide together.
  • The just shall live by faith.
  • Look into the future with great expectation, and the more you look, the better it becomes.
  • Faith! dont just say it with your mouth, say it with your heart.
  • What people are saying about you, is not your problem but what you are saying about yourself.
  • Yor background is not the reason why you are still on the ground.
Dear reader, as you look upon these teachings, bear in mind that we are not called to dwell in our past, for our past is dead and gone.... till another teaching my friends, STAY BLESSED!

TODAY'S PRAYER!

Heavenly Father,
I give you praise for the wonderful things you have done in my life.
Give me the strenght to overcome the challenges i face, &
Make me a person better.

GALA! MY MESSAGE TO YOU AT 50'

CONGRATULATIONS to UAC as gala marks 50yrs of providing commuters with something to eat while in traffic. Una don try.

My worry however, is the boys who hawk your product on the road side, have you seen the damage the sun heat and hardship is doing to their skin colour? These boys are going through hell on the streets, everytime i see them, ,my heart beats with pain.

The world has turned into a digitalized environment, where everthing is now made easy and simple for everyone, my point is this; get these boys Hat to protect them from the scorching sun and also, something they can use to hang the cartons of gala on their shoulder, at least to reduce their suffering. It's not that hard, safety should be the watchword abeg!

No be only Gala i dey talk to oohh, Beefy, Meaty, Rite et al, abeg make una do something for these boys to reduce their pain and suffering!

FIRST LADY NOW PERMANENT SECRETARY

The Bayelsa state Government under Hon Seriake Dickson promoted or should i say, demoted the first lady of the country, Dame Patience Jonathan to the position of permanent secretary alongside 19 others. The first lady according to reports, has been on a leave of absence some 13yrs ago before she was recalled, abeg i want ask question, "how many Nigerians have been recalled to office after such long number of years outside service?"

Let me state that, i don't hold any grudges against the first family, i accord them the respect courtesy and my beloved country demands, but that aside, Nigerians are beautifully gifted at framing  defences for any action undertaken by them, be it good, bad or wicked. For the love of God, let us call a spade 'a spade'.
Madam first lady or should i say, perm sec, put aside any legal backing that supporters of this move have been advocating since the appointment {believe me, they only support it because of personal gain}, in my humble opinion, the appointment is selfish, unmerited and an abuse of political office. Her Excellency, you need not be a perm sec to contribute to the development of Bayelsa or Nigeria. Have you considered that this appointment will only belittle you in the eyes of Nigerians and the international community? don't you think people would suggest you want to use this office as a means to syphone public funds?

It is trite knowledge that people at the top are fond of doing things without regard to public opinion, thus you will accept the appointment no matter what Nigerians think or say. Think about it, when you and Hon seriake Dickson are discussing official duties and functions, who will really be in charge?

Madam please, we dont need this overlapping of positions now.

A WOMAN OF MANY FIRST!

68yr old Justice Maryam Aloma Mukhtar was on monday, sworn in by president Goodluck Jonathan as the first female Chief Justice of Nigerai {CJN}, she was also conferred with the national honor of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger {GCON}

Justice Aloma Mukhtar is a lady of many firsts, she was the first female lawyer to emerge from the defunct norther Nigeria, the first female High court Judge in the north, she then rose to become the first female Justice of the Court of Appeal and then Supreme court.

There is a saying "in politics, if you want something said, give it to a man but if you want something done, give it to a woman." Me lady, this is a laudable achievement and  an inspiration to women in Nigeria and Africa. I hope you crown your retirement by eradicating the stench of corruption in our judicial system, you can be the first to do that.

Goodluck to you and all the best.

NBA PRESIDENT! WHO SHALL IT BE?

The Nigerian Bar Association, the custodian and hope of the common man today elects its new president who will pilot the affairs of the Association for the next two years. Since zoning has become a custom in Nigerian politics, the coveted  seat was zoned to the south east which produced three contending candidates;
  • Chief Emeka Ngige {SAN}
    Chief Ngige feels he has a superior vision compared  to the other two contestants, his message is simple "to reclaim NBA from the hawks who are holding it by the jugular  and to bring the change we all desire without minding whose ox is gored", further more, his mission is to restore internal  democracy.
    •     Mr Okey Wali{SAN}
    His desire according to him, is to give back to the profession and humanity if given the opportunity to be the president of NBA, his mission is "promoting rule of  law, clarify laws, protect human rights, build laws, foster government accountability, create pressure, document injustice, use for advocacy, create public awareness and civic education."

    • Mr Blessing Ukiri
     For the past twenty years, NBA presidents have been from the inner bar i.e Senior Advocates of Nigeria {SAN}, but this lawyer believes it is time for a change, because,  it is niether a tradition nor a constitutional requirement that one must be a SAN to be NBA president.

    Mr Blessing Ukiri, believes that both Mr Wali and chief Ngige should be  the ones to step down for him as both have not held   any office at national level. His mission  is to consolidate the good and unfinished programms of J.B Daudu's administration, in his words "our members are yearning for the leader they can trust..."

    We are all  aware that politicians while  seeking elective positions, promise a heaven on earth just to secure a victory, it is my hope that the 1,000 delegates who would attend the conference in Abuja will vote based on merit  and achievements, not political shinanigans.

    TO MY BABY LAWYERS!

    To my baby lawyers in law school, the time has come when all your understanding of the law derived through lectures, tutorials, midnight reading et al would be put to a test, it is often said, 'examminations are not the true test of knowledge', please donot be decieved, Bar finals {part 2} is really going to test your knowledge.

    At this stage, a serious student is one who is through with his first reading and is testing his weakness by answering past questions and answers, but as a lawyer cannot finish reading, you must still continue to read.

    This is the time to be at your best frame of mind, meaning, whatever it is you do that relieves stress and pressure, keeps you calm and makes you happy, do it. If it is sleep, sleep well, if it is women, feel free, if it is Prayer, pray hard, if it is alcohol {not adviseable} drink well. Donot be afraid, likewise donot be over confident, pay no attention to rumors but deligently keep studying your books.

    Bar finals is a tough exam, no doubt, but people with one head like yourself have made first class, thus, you can also be part of them, aim for the best and leave the rest to God.

    I wish you all the best and can't wait to welcome those who would be chosen to be members of the Prestigous Bar. Read hard, Pray hard and Play hard, that is the secret!

    Goodluck to you...

    OSHO BABA! A VICTORY WELL DESERVED

    No matter how good you are, you cannot rule another man without his consent!
     The weekend was filled with jubillant noises of celebration on the streets of Edo state, as incumbent Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole was given another opportunity to rule Edo state, on a landslide victory of 477,478 as against PDP who could only garner 144,235 votes. The people of Edo have shown Nigerians that for a truth, the power to governance lies in the hands of the voters. Gone are the days when 'a carton of detergent' or 'ten thousand naira' was used to buy votes.

    Leadership is influence and if  Osho Baba had made embezzlement of public funds his top priority and not the livelihood and welfare of the people, i tell you, the people of Edo state would not have gone to this lenght to support him, protect their votes to ensure that he emerged winner, to the extent that most churches in the state were half-full due to the celebration. This indeed, is a step forward for Nigeria.

    If only Nigerians would emulate this act come 2015 and use merit and achievements, not Ethnic, Religous, Linguistic or Political party to determine our president, Nigeria would be marching towards a destination we truly deserve..."Giants of Africa".

    CONGRATS Baba Osho on a well deserved victory, KUDOS the peoiple of Edos state for reminding us again that our votes really count, and Thank you ACN for providing a worthy opposition!!!

    God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

    TODAY'S PRAYER!

    Heavenly Father,
    Thank you for a wonderful weekend and the Gift of a new week,
    Help me to put you first before any other thing, &
    Give me rest to enjoy the best.

    INVERTERS, YOUR ALTERNATIVE TO GENERATORS!

    It is no longer news that Nigerians are the highest importers of Generator sets, which adds significantly to our fuel consumption in this Country, but what if i told you, you could forget about generators and still have constant electricity when our Able PHCN do their job of power outage. All you have to do, is store Power when available and use when there's power failure. Most people say 'Inverters are not reliable' or 'they dont last long' forgeting it is the amount of load that determines the lifespan of a battery, simpliciter, you cannot use an inverter as a generator and expect it to last long.

    For instance, a four{4} hour charged inverter battery is ideally suppose to last for twelve hours{12}, but Nigerians being good at what we do, we would put on every appliances in the house both the ones needed and the ones not needed and still expect the battery to still last for twelve{12} hours because na machine, God is watching you. Inverters are safe for sensitive appliances, silent performer {no noise at all}, Negligible running cost, Eco-friendly {no smoke}, Zero maintanance and you get a one year warranty.

    Forget subsidy removal, let Inverters occupy your house and offices and reduce the high cost of running a generator set. Take for example, a 0.8kva which uses one battery and can take two{2} standing fans, two{2} Television sets, One computer and your light bulbs would cost you one hundred thousand naira {N100,000.00} only, to install and after that, bye bye to 'no money to fuel generator' and constant electricity for a whole year,give it a try.

    AFTER CLOSURE, WHAT NEXT?

    The government has started repairs on third mainland bridge, leading to the partial closure of the bridge till November 6, this no doubt has created some inconveniences as almost everywhere you look in Lagos is gridlocked, but the repairs is for the benefit of us all, hence, what we need is to chart a way forward.

    For those of us, that have Bentleys, 4matics, Range Rover {sport and HD recovery}, Ford Explorers and other porsche and flashy cars {this does not however leave out the containers that some drivers call cars}, it is hightime we parked the unneccessary cars at home instead of overcrowding the road and take public transport prefferably BRT, you will realise it is less stressfull and more convenient.

    Also, the Lagos state government has advised residents to embrace ferry servics as alternative means of transport during the the ongoing repairs, the Commisioner for Transportation assured Lagosians that the waterways are now better and safer.

    His Excellency, Governor of Lagos state, please and please help us with road worthy BRT buses, the one i took today collapsed halfway into the journey leaving commuters to fend for themselves. Sir the Buses are not sufficient and most of them need replacement, abeg make una help us as soon as possible before Danfo drivers collect all the salary way dey person pocket.

    "together we can"!

    WARREN BUFFET'S TECHNIQUE ON HOW TO BE A SELF-MADE BILLIONAIRE!!!

    1. Have faith in yourself and dare to be different {your judgment should not be dependent upon what other people are saying or doing}.

    2. Reinvest your gains {you easily get tempted to splurge money when you first earn it. Don't acquire impulsively, instead, endeavor to reinvest your earnings}.

    3. Donot procastinate things, keep yourself well informed ahead of time before making decisions.

    4. Plainly spell out an agreement prior to starting a work {Always fix every detail and specifics of some deal even before commencing it}.

    5. Borrow less.

    6. Keep an eye on all those minor bills.

    7. Possess a sturdy Will and be determined {you'll be able to triumph over virtually any organized competitor blending determination and resourcefulness}

    8. Understand when to stop.

    9. Are you aware what achieving success really means to you.

    Meditate on these words, let your actions be in tandem with the principles and maybe our financial status will begin to change.

    3RD MAINLAND BRIDGE!!

    Third Mainland Bridge is the longest of three bridges connecting Lagos Island, Lagos, Nigeria to the mainland. It is the longest bridge in Africa. The bridge starts from Oworonshoki which is linked to the Apapa-Oshodi express way and Lagos-Ibadan express way, and ends at the Adeniji Adele Interchange on Lagos Island. There is also a link midway through the bridge that leads to the Herbert Macaulay Way, Yaba. The bridge was built by Julius Berger Nigeria PLC and opened by President Ibrahim Babangida in 1990; it measures about 11.8km in length. You go chop two gala with minerals finish and you still never reach the end.

    Only recently the Government of Lagos state announced that repairs {maintanance} would be done on this bridge from july 1st- November 6th due to vibrations they said emanates from the bridge. Irrespective of the heavy traffic this was to bring upon the people of Lagos state, they commended the initiative. However the planned partial closure of the bridge was suspended due to one reason or the other,The Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Kayode Opeifa said said that the Federal Ministry of Works had "communicated to them (state) that a few things still needed to be resolved."
    On when the bridge will be closed for repairs, Opeifa said, "when they (the federal ministry of works) are ready, they will tell us when repair work will start."

    This is a plea to both the Federal Government and Lagos state Government, 3rd mainland bridge is plied by Thousands of Nigerians on a daily basis and the casualty of a collapse {God forbid} is beyond our imagination for anyone, and i mean anyone can fall a victim. Abeg make una help us save our image from foreign eyes, fix this bridge ASAP before we would hear "i told you so" or "i being think am". The precious lives of Nigerians is worth more than any Gamble.

    A word they say, is enough for the wise!

    TODAY'S PRAYER!

    Papa God!
    Make me an instrument of Peace & Love,
    Give me the Wisdom to make the right choices in life,
    Cleanse me of all iniquities, &
    Bless me with Joy & Happiness!

    BELIEVE IN YOU!

    As you read this piece, please bear in mind that Peter Mcwilliams "you can't afford the luxury of a negative thought" was a major contributor.

    All that is comes from the mind;
    it is based on the mind,
    it is fashioned by the mind.... Pali Cannon {500-250 bc}

    The essence of this piece, is to help us understand that the circumstances of life that surround us {be it good or bad}, is a result of our thoughts {imagination}, also , to let us know we cannot afford the luxury of a negative thought.

    Negative thinking is an expensive commodity that does not augur well with the soft life we desire. A negative thought only drags us down mentally, emotionally and physically, why then do we indulge in it?

    To love oneself is the begining of a life long romance.... Oscar Wilde!

    Be easier on yourself, think better of yourself, learn to forgive yourself and others for "worrying is the interest paid on a debt you may not owe."

    You are far more powerful than you ever dreamed and this is how to discover yourself;
    • Spend more time focusing on the positive things in your life {be thankful for what you have and stop thinking about what you don't have},
    • Spend less time thinking negatively, &
    • Enjoy each and every moment you can.
    My friend, you are a marvelous, wonderful, worthwhile person- just because you are.... Takecare and go easy on yourself because that load you carry is unnecessary.

    TODAY'S PRAYER!

    Papa God!
    Replace my pressure with pleasure,
    Donot allow my problems to overwhelm me,
    Speak to me clearly on crucial issues of my life, &
    Let there be a new dawn in my life!!
