NBA PRESIDENT! WHO SHALL IT BE?

The Nigerian Bar Association, the custodian and hope of the common man today elects its new president who will pilot the affairs of the Association for the next two years. Since zoning has become a custom in Nigerian politics, the coveted  seat was zoned to the south east which produced three contending candidates;
  • Chief Emeka Ngige {SAN}
    Chief Ngige feels he has a superior vision compared  to the other two contestants, his message is simple "to reclaim NBA from the hawks who are holding it by the jugular  and to bring the change we all desire without minding whose ox is gored", further more, his mission is to restore internal  democracy.
    •     Mr Okey Wali{SAN}
    His desire according to him, is to give back to the profession and humanity if given the opportunity to be the president of NBA, his mission is "promoting rule of  law, clarify laws, protect human rights, build laws, foster government accountability, create pressure, document injustice, use for advocacy, create public awareness and civic education."

    • Mr Blessing Ukiri
     For the past twenty years, NBA presidents have been from the inner bar i.e Senior Advocates of Nigeria {SAN}, but this lawyer believes it is time for a change, because,  it is niether a tradition nor a constitutional requirement that one must be a SAN to be NBA president.

    Mr Blessing Ukiri, believes that both Mr Wali and chief Ngige should be  the ones to step down for him as both have not held   any office at national level. His mission  is to consolidate the good and unfinished programms of J.B Daudu's administration, in his words "our members are yearning for the leader they can trust..."

    We are all  aware that politicians while  seeking elective positions, promise a heaven on earth just to secure a victory, it is my hope that the 1,000 delegates who would attend the conference in Abuja will vote based on merit  and achievements, not political shinanigans.
