3RD MAINLAND BRIDGE!!

Third Mainland Bridge is the longest of three bridges connecting Lagos Island, Lagos, Nigeria to the mainland. It is the longest bridge in Africa. The bridge starts from Oworonshoki which is linked to the Apapa-Oshodi express way and Lagos-Ibadan express way, and ends at the Adeniji Adele Interchange on Lagos Island. There is also a link midway through the bridge that leads to the Herbert Macaulay Way, Yaba. The bridge was built by Julius Berger Nigeria PLC and opened by President Ibrahim Babangida in 1990; it measures about 11.8km in length. You go chop two gala with minerals finish and you still never reach the end.

Only recently the Government of Lagos state announced that repairs {maintanance} would be done on this bridge from july 1st- November 6th due to vibrations they said emanates from the bridge. Irrespective of the heavy traffic this was to bring upon the people of Lagos state, they commended the initiative. However the planned partial closure of the bridge was suspended due to one reason or the other,The Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Kayode Opeifa said said that the Federal Ministry of Works had "communicated to them (state) that a few things still needed to be resolved."
On when the bridge will be closed for repairs, Opeifa said, "when they (the federal ministry of works) are ready, they will tell us when repair work will start."

This is a plea to both the Federal Government and Lagos state Government, 3rd mainland bridge is plied by Thousands of Nigerians on a daily basis and the casualty of a collapse {God forbid} is beyond our imagination for anyone, and i mean anyone can fall a victim. Abeg make una help us save our image from foreign eyes, fix this bridge ASAP before we would hear "i told you so" or "i being think am". The precious lives of Nigerians is worth more than any Gamble.

A word they say, is enough for the wise!
